Caregiver Cruise 2017
We cruised to Bermuda, June 3-8, 2017!
In Bermuda, our participants and caregivers enjoyed a glass bottom boat tour, visiting the pink sands of Horseshoe Bay, viewing the beautiful coastline from the Fantasea Sightseeing Boat tour, and exploring the city of Hamilton. We also had some time for shopping, sampling rum cake, and of course a little eating and drinking at the Frog and Onion Pub!
We took advantage of all the amenities on the Anthem of the Seas as well. Several participants were selected to participate in a jewelry fashion show, many raced in bumper cars, enjoyed a wine tasting, and took in evening shows at the theater. Joel and Christi, the Insight staff members on the cruise, were the only ones brave enough to try out the roller skating rink!
While everyone enjoyed all the sights and attractions, many said the best part of the cruise was the company and the support.

We departed from New Jersey on Saturday, June 3rd, traveling to King's Wharf, Bermuda, and returned on Thursday, June 8th.

Well, six days has come and gone and our 3rd annual Caregiver Cruise has come to an end. The morning started off with folks finishing up their last minute packing and having a quick bite in the Windjammer before heading to our destination location on the ship. Luckily this year, we were fortunate enough to have the Group Coordinator escort us personally off the ship! I do have to say, this was WAY better than last year! -

As they say “the sea was angry that day, my friends.” Today the sea was quite rough, causing the ship to sway back and forth and up and down. We saw many a folks with Dramamine patches on today! Unfortunately, because of the rough seas, Royal Caribbean ended up cancelling some of the events and shows due to safety concerns. But, that did not stop us from having fun today! -

Today started bright and early yet again! We had an early excursion this morning: Sightseeing Boat Tour and Hamilton Shopping. The group had to be up, ready and reporting for duty at 8am in the Schooner Bar to once again head down the pier to meet our tour guides! -
June 5, 2017
Today started off with a group of the cruisers heading to the Dreamworks Madagascar’s Character Breakfast where we got to meet King Julien and Alex the Lion! It really just goes to show you that everyone is really a big kid at heart! Jack and Jim totally embraced their inner kids and got the award for “best interaction” with the characters. Mind you – our group was several decades older than the other guests at this breakfast! -

Day two was off to a beautiful start as it was a gorgeous day to be on the ocean! Not a cloud in the sky and the temperature in the high 70’s – we could not have asked for a better day! Today was our first full day at sea. Christi and Joel had a lot planned for the group, but alas, the group opted to sleep in and nap throughout the day; again leaving Joel and Christi to their own devices! -

Well, we made it to the Anthem of the Seas in Bayonne New Jersey at Cape Liberty! The day started bright and early as most of our cruisers were super excited and arrived bright eyed and bushy tailed almost thirty minutes earlier than expected this morning at IMCC! After we gathered everyone up, tagged all our luggage, filled our to-go cups, grabbed a granola bar, had a quick photo shoot – we were off! -

The first stop on our cruise wasn't actually on the boat, but our Cruise Orientation meeting! We met a few weeks prior to departure to give all of the families a chance to get to know one another, ask questions about the trip, and of course, get a thorough overview of what's planned for the vacation! And it wouldn't be a meeting without food, so we had some rum cake to get ready for Bermuda! -
About the Caregiver Cruise
Insight Memory Care Center now offers a regular Caregiver Cruise! Both the individual with a dementia diagnosis and their caregiver attend, making the program possibly the first of its kind in the country. In addition to the many benefits a cruise offers – the chance for a vacation, seeing new sights, a getaway – the caregiver cruise provides families with a sense of normalcy. And we all deserve a vacation!
