What are Adult Day Services?

The National Adult Day Services Association describes, “Adult Day Services centers provide a coordinated program of professional and compassionate services for adults in a community-based group setting.” Generally, adult day centers will offer social and/or therapeutic activities, meals and snacks, and assistance with personal care.

Why are we celebrating Adult Day Services?

There are many benefits of Adult Day Services! Studies show that adult day services increase cognitive function, ambulation, strength and flexibility, pleasure and interest, overall functioning and quality of life, while decreasing agitation, depression, psychoactive medication use, falls, and need for nursing home care. In addition to helping participants, studies have also shown that care partner’s stress was reduced and their health improved as a result of having their loved one attend an adult day center.

How are we celebrating?

At Insight, we treat Adult Day Services Week as a homecoming week of sorts – we have fun theme days planned for staff and participants, along with treats and games to celebrate the hard work of our staff. Follow along with us on Facebook or Instagram to see the theme days in action!

We know a dementia diagnosis affects more than just the individual. Care partners and families also need support. Adult Day Services help by providing respite, and Insight takes it a step further offering a number of support and education programs for families also. We have many great classes happening this week; everything from a Virtual Dementia Tour and Dementia 101 to professional trainings and a Caregiver Bootcamp at the end of the week.
