All health care professionals and front line staff who work in the health care industry are encouraged to attend. This is the required seminar for those pursuing CDP certification to qualify through the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners. What does this training cover?

The seminar will cover the following modules: Diagnosis, Prognosis, Treatment, Communication, Feelings, Depression, Repetitive Behavior, Paranoia, Hallucinations, Wandering, Hoarding, Aggressive Behaviors, Catastrophic Reactions, Intimacy and Sexuality, Personal Care, Pain, Nutrition, Activities, Environment, Staff and Family Support, Diversity and Cultural Competence, Spiritual Care and End of Life.
 

Who should take this training?

  • This credential can be earned by any health care professional or others working in healthcare.
  • Upon completion of the full training, participants are able to apply for Certified Dementia Care Practitioner certification through the National Council of Certified Dementia Care Practitioners.
  • You will receive a Certificate of Completion documenting the training hours earned that may be eligible for CEUs, depending on your field.
  • This seminar is approved for 7 CEUs for nurses with InsPac in most states for an additional fee of $28. Information will be provided to you during the class.


Classes are offered in-person or virtually. Space is limited; registration must be received in advance. No form of taping is allowed in the seminar. A Student Handout Notebook will be provided.

Lindsey Vajpeyi, ADC, BF-CMT, CDP, CADDCT, DCCS, DCC-CI, Director of Education and Support

Lindsey Vajpeyi is the Director of Education & Support at Insight Memory Care Center in Northern Virginia. She brings over two decades of experience supporting older adults living with dementia and the care partners who walk beside them. Lindsey is deeply committed to advancing high-quality dementia care, providing comprehensive education and support for care partners, and empowering individuals living with dementia to maintain dignity, identity, and purpose throughout their journey.

Lindsey’s certifications include Activity Director Certified, Best Friends™ – Certified Master Trainer, Certified Dementia Practitioner®, Certified Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Care Trainer®, MoCA Cognitive Assessment Certified Rater, Dementia Capable Care Specialist, Dementia Capable Care Certified Instructor, and she is a Dementia Friends Champion.

Dawn Jefferson

Dawn Jefferson, CDP, CADDCT, M.A.Ed., M.Div., Education and Support Coordinator


Dawn Jefferson is the Education and Support Coordinator at Insight Memory Care Center in Fairfax, VA. She is a native New Yorker who has nurtured a 20-year career as an educator, having taught English and been an administrator at The Potomac School in McLean, VA and The Urban School of San Francisco, CA. Dawn has worked in hospital and school settings while earning a Master of Religion and Education at Columbia University’s Teachers College and spent several summers in Vermont completing another master’s degree in English at Middlebury College’s Bread Loaf School of English. Dawn earned her Master of Divinity from Yale Divinity School (YDS) in May 2021 and was ordained in the United Church of Christ in October 2022. Dawn spent her last year in seminary researching the practical theology of dementia and considering the intentional ministry we offer to older adults. Dawn served on the Dementia Friendly Fairfax Action Team and hosted two monthly Dementia Care Partner Support Groups: one inspired by a UCC grant and the other for LGBTQIA+ Care Partners at Insight before joining our staff formally in the Fall of 2024.

Dawn's dementia certifications include Certified Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Care Trainer® and she is a certified Dementia Friendly Champion.
