Loudoun County Student Volunteers Make an Impact

This past year, our Sterling Reconnections Program had the privilege of participating in Loudoun County Public Schools' “Job for a Day” Program — and what an inspiring experience it turned out to be!

The "Job for a Day" initiative gives 11th and 12th grade students the opportunity to step into the professional world for a day, shadowing someone in a career they’re curious about. It’s a hands-on, immersive way for students to explore future possibilities and gain real-world insight outside the traditional classroom.

We were thrilled to welcome two enthusiastic students to our Sterling Reconnections team. From the moment they arrived, they brought a positive attitude and genuine interest in our program and participants. What stood out the most was how quickly they jumped in — not just observing, but actively contributing to the activities and connecting with participants.

We also learned from the LCPS program coordinators that the Reconnections site is one of the most popular placements — apparently, the work we do here is considered one of the most enjoyable and rewarding volunteer opportunities for students! We take pride in offering a collaborative and engaging environment, and it’s always encouraging to hear that it resonates with the next generation.

Sharing this story during National Volunteer Week is meaningful. These students came to Reconnections to learn, but they also gave their time and effort — the core of volunteerism. In just one day, they made a real impact and showed us that volunteering can take many forms. Sometimes, it's just about showing up, helping out, and being open to learning.

We’re incredibly thankful to Loudoun County Public Schools for creating such a valuable program and for allowing us to be a part of it. We’re already looking forward to welcoming another set of students this upcoming year!

Here’s to the student volunteers who made an impact, and to everyone giving their time during National Volunteer Week!
