Updated Guidebook
New 6th Edition of Caregiving at a Glance is Now Available!
A fingertip guide for caregivers, and Insight’s own unique publication, Caregiving at a Glance provides strategies for managing behavior challenges and planning for future care. We are so excited to share a new, updated, 6th edition is now available!
First published in 1991, the guidebook was initially written by our founder, Lin Simon, to share lessons learned directly from families caring for their loved ones. She compiled helpful hints and “aha” moments learned as quick, actionable tips that families could use at home to manage challenging behaviors, build caregiving skills, and take care of their own health and well-being. The goal for the guidebook was to empower care partners and help them gain confidence. Quick tips are easy to find and reference. Many found the guidebook helpful simply to know they were not alone.
Over the years, Caregiving at a Glance has expanded to include more topics and sections, but the essence of the guidebook remains the same: providing helpful, actionable tips that caregivers can try at home. The sixth edition includes sections on: Diagnosis Dementia, Dementia 101, Common Symptoms, Caregiving, Finding Additional Care, Eating and Mealtime, Sleeping, Bathing and Personal Care, Toileting, Communication, Troublesome Behaviors, Hostility and Aggression, Wandering, Activities and Engagement, Tips for Travel, Home Safety, Giving Up the Keys, Medication Guide, and Legal Needs.
We are sincerely grateful for everyone who has contributed to our Caregiving at a Glance publication over the years. From proofreaders to care partners sharing helpful hints, this guidebook wouldn’t come together without you. A special thank you to Lin Simon, Dawn Jefferson, Melissa Long, Jessica Peters, Lindsey Vajpeyi and Carrie Idol-Richards for helping to update the 6th edition.
We are also grateful for the McLean Community Foundation for providing grant funding to print copies of this newest edition. Thanks to our generous supporters, we are able to provide copies free of charge to family care partners in our community. Over 700 were distributed over last fiscal year alone!
